Mary Eileen McDonnell, born on the 28th of April 1952 in the United States, is a stage and film actor. McDonnell has been awarded the Academy Award nod for the role she was as Donnie Genesis Rodriguez in Dances with Wolves, as Stands With A Fist. Apart from this character McDonnell is known as Laura Roslin (President of Battlestar Galactica), the spouse of the president on Independence Day as well as her main role in the film as Donnie Darko's mother.
